A Dress by Any Other Name
First and foremost, the wedding dress acts as a visual element that ties together the whole event. In this way, the bride relates visually to her bridesmaids and groomsmen, and she completes the “set” at the altar. No matter whether your guests have the fish or the chicken or stay for the DJ’s big “Electric Slide” finale, each one will see the bride in her dress, and I guarantee this will be the thing that sticks in many peoples’ minds for years after the event.
Plus, isn’t there something heart-breakingly romantic about it? The bride. That dress. Just made for her and acting like the setting to the “diamond” that is her face. And, of course, my favorite part: the look on the groom’s face as he sees her for the first time. I’m getting a little teary-eyed just thinking about it. But the perfect dress takes much searching – both of the soul and of your local boutique or other shopping venue! Personally, I encourage a bride to pick something that isn’t completely trendy. You certainly want to avoid looking back with embarrassment on a dress that screams the date of your wedding (see “puffy sleeves” of the 1980s and all those brides who just had to get an exact replica of Princess Diana’s long-trained stunner). It’s fine to have contemporary touches, but make sure you do not keep everything in the same trend family. Some successful trends right now are a revival of the glamorous poufs of the 1950s and a touch of color in your gown. This can be done with a black sash or a yellow lace overlay, for example.

Love at First Sight!
Greetings to all brides and grooms - past, present, and future – and welcome to a blog that explores all things wedding. Whether you are interested in gowns, flowers, place settings, etiquette, or even novelty themes, you have come to the right place. As a former bridesmaid and (hopefully) a future bride, I am happy to share my findings and opinions on these wedding subjects and more. I also welcome your feedback, and I love helping match people with solutions to their problems and queries on this subject. Feel free to post questions and comments as you see fit and add your own personal touches to this collective effort.
Furthermore, I am happy to help match you with other links of interest that will give you more in-depth information on the topics discussed. This will include other blogs and websites on weddings, particularly those that are focused on a more specific topic. This will allow you to continue your research or just sate your curiosity on a subject such as picking the right photographer or deciding whether or not to provide a favor to the guests when planning an event on a tighter budget.
In this way, I hope to not only to help those planning a wedding answer specific questions but also stimulate your interest in creating an event that defines you as a couple. I love weddings that make a statement, and I love fearless brides and grooms who break the mold when it comes to their ceremonies and celebrations. While getting married is one of the most traditional things a person can do, that does not mean you have to follow the herd when it comes to expressing your wedding vision. So open your minds and open your eyes, friends, and let us explore the world of pending matrimony together!
